Quoting fellow advertiser William Maynard, David Ogilvy said of copywriters, “Most good [ones] fall into two categories. Poets. And Killers. Poets see an ad as an end. Killers as a means to an end.”

To my thinking, a good poem and a good ad are both means to the same end: making someone feel. Maybe like laughing. Maybe like crying. Maybe like buying your product. Choosing your service. Supporting your cause.

Brands are built and broken on language, and parity is only a problem if you’re less liked than the competition.

If you’d like to chat about copy, freelance, job opportunities, poetry, or something off the wall, don’t hesitate to drop me a line.
